The University, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya is proud of its Library system which was inaugurated in 1980 comprises only the Central Library at Mohanpur, Main campus. It is housed in a four storied gigantic building encompassing total 5575 sq. m.  floor space with a plan area of 7242 sq. m. having a good architectural beauty. To facilitate the teaching, research & extension activities of an Agriculture university, the library plays a pivotal role. With the long tradition of collective efforts of all the staff members of the library, we have been striving hard to meet the present day demands of our users by rendering various services to all through manual & IT based system.

Working Hours : 10.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.


Library Advisory Committee:
Library Advisory Committee is a statutory body which decides the plans, policies and development for the library. Dean, Faculty of Agriculture is its Chairman. All Deans, Directors, Comptroller and one Teacher from each Faculty nominated by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor are its member. The Assistant Librarian & In-Charge is its Convener.
The Assistant Librarian & In-Charge heads the library services and is directly responsible to the Hon’ble Vice chancellor. Her prime task is to organize, manage and sustain library services.

BOOK BANK: 2 books are issued to the U.G. students for six months on rental basis @ charge of 10% of actual cost of a book. Same amount is levied as Renewal or overdue charges.

Reference & Reading Room section is located just on the left side of the circulation counter. It is the abode of both conventional reference Documents as well as one copy of all the important textbook titles. Referral Services are also catered in some cases.

The current Indian and Foreign Journals section houses all subscribed and Gift titles in the 2nd floor of the Library. The users are provided reading and photocopy  facilities.
In the same floor serials like Advances/Annual Reviews/Methods are kept . Back volumes of Journals and Annual Reports of different Institutions are stacked in the Ground floor, after Binding as well as unbound back copies are also kept in a separate room. There is a huge reading hall.

Presently 10 nodes are engaged for such service. Browsing free for all.  The saved data can be copied on CDs against payment of Rs. 10/- Print-out rate per copy Rs. 1/-

This  Library has 20 nodes connected with  V-SAT & ARIS in this section and
Internet surfing for academic purpose is free of cost for all users.

Catalogue of library resources from 1990 onwards is available in machine readable format on computers (05 nodes ) using library software SOUL.

The Library provides photocopy service at a nominal charge of 50 paisa per page with the aid of 3 digital Photocopiers.

The theses and dissertations are preserved in a separate section for consultation by the users as well as photocopy is permitted.

The Library has its own well –equipped bindery for repair of damaged reading materials. Only one technical person has to undertake the Herculean workload of binding, lamination and even conservational works too. Even, the binding works of the university as such is done from this single-manned Bindery.

Only the newcomer UG Students usually get user-orientation at the time of their admission. Users intending to work in environment are also rendered appropriate hands-on training.

Computerized Processing of books was initially done with the aid of CDs/ISIS and subsequently retro-converted to SOUL.
Classification is done by DDC 19th ed. DDC 22nd ed. is also used in some cases.
Old Library catalogue Cards (Catalogued respectively using ALA Code & AACR II (Code) in three sequences, i.e. Author, Title and subject are available at the entrance .

Presently, the OPAC also helps to find required documents.
For the Current Journals, ‘CARDEX’ is also maintained besides computerized record.

MEMBERSHIP                                                                                                   TOP
The membership of the Central library is open to the teachers, students, research scholars, officers, non-teaching employees, (technical) of the Viswavidyalaya. The reading facilities (Reference), photocopy facilities and bibliographic database searching facilities are provided to outside teacher, scholars and students. The library caution deposit for UG student is Rs.250/- , Rs.400/- for PG students and Rs. 500/- for Research Scholars. Members are provided with computerized bar-coded membership card.

a) Faculty members : 14 books for 30 days & 1 book on overnight issue from Reference
b) Officers: 4 books for 15 days
c) Research Scholars: 4 books for 15 days
d) P.G Students: 4 books for 15 days
e) UG Students: 3 books for 15 days & 2 books from Book-Bank for 6 months
f) Staff: 4 books for 15 day

Circulation counter remains open from 11 am to 5 p.m. on each working day
Overnight issue of books from the Reference section are made after 4 p.m.
Return of such book(s) should be made within 1 hour of opening on the very next day.
Reference books, Rare Books, Theses & Dissertations, Periodicals, e-documents are not
lent out (with an exception of issue of Reference books on Overnight to the Faculty-members)
