PG Admission

Master degree programmes are offered in 15 academic departments out of 17 numbers, and require a student to complete 40 credit hour course work, 2 seminars and project work (noncredit). The programme requires 4 semesters each of 6 months duration at the minimum. Evaluation includes four short tests (40%) and one End term (60%) in theories, and continuous evaluation in practicals. Results are given in 10.0 point scale in numerical grade. For project work a dissertation is submitted by the student to be examined by external examiners. There are written and oral Comprehensive examinations also.
Doctoral Degree programmes are offered in all the 17 academic departments. Doctoral degree programmes are research work based programme with a minimum of 12 credit hour course work and 3 seminars. Minimum eligibility is masters degree in the subject or in cognate branch of science. Students having no basic degree in agriculture requires to undergo 15 credit hours additional course work in basic agriculture. Limited number of scholarship are aviailable for doctoral students in additional to Research Fellowships available through ad-hoc research projects in Departments funded by outside agencies like ICAR, ARC, CSRI, UGC, Govt. of India and others.
The system of imparting instructions and evaluation are course and credit system completed in 8 (eight) term. Each term shall be of 15 weeks duration for classes. Maximum of 4, 2 and 1 week will be required respectively for End Term examinations, Study leave and Examination, Term Break.  Short tests and practical examinations are to be held during class hours.
Attending class in Faculty or in Farm is students^ own responsibility. Attending regularly to the notices of the Faculty at the Notice Board of the Dean^s Office is also important. Timely submission of applications for scholarships, examination or collection of admit card or deposition of fees and applications, withdrawal of scholarship or stipend etc. are students^ responsibility. Any absence from classes etc. on genune medical ground will require submission of application in time in proper form with evidences. During working days students can not leave the campus without prior permission from Dean/Head, Department. No tours can be held on working days. Attending examinations on declared date & time, appearing in examinations in disciplined and fair manner, abiding by a all instructions of invigilators is most important, failing which students may invite academic punishments. As per course & credit system, the evaluation of all courses are internal and to be done by teacher concerned, having no moderating etc.

There are hostels for Post Graduate and Reasearch Students. These hostels should be treated as a facility provided by the Viswavidayalaya for the students registered in the Viswavidyalaya in accordance with the Stautes and Regulations. The right of admission and continuance in the hostels as a boarder are reserved by the Viswavidyalaya. Residence in the hostel is compulsory for all students registered for PG and Ph.D courses. Provided that the Dean of the Faculty concerned permits a student to reside outside the hostel with his/her parents/guardians residing within 15 kilometers from the Faculty subject to the conditions that :
a) The application of the student should be accompanied by a letter from the parents/guardian/relative to the effect that the student will be leaving with them and under their care during the period of his/her stay at the Viswavidyalaya and
b) The permission so accorded shall be withdrawn if the student fails to attend to the theory and practical classes timely and regularly as per class schedule during a term/semester.
The student residing in a hostel shall be required to abide by the Hostel Rules and other instructions issued by the Hostel Authorities from time to time. Any breach of hostel rules or such other instructions will render a student liable to disciplinary action.
Evaluation System: University in compliance with the modern system of evaluating examination performance, announces results in grades taking 10.00 as the maximum point attainable. The performance of the student is indicated on the basis of specified calculation, the procedure for which is also stated in the grade card. Generally, in order to arrive at the actual percentage of these students^ scoring out of 100, the indicated grade point as scored by the student may be multiplied by 10 (ten). On referring to our previous records it is also stated that this University took for all purpose, a score of 65% and above, under the system of grade point marking, as euivalent to first class under traditional system.

NOTIFICATION FOR ADMISSION TO MASTERS’ AND DOCTORAL DEGREE PROGRAMME FOR THE SESSION 2010-11:

Applications are invited for admission to the following Masters’ and Doctoral Degree programme for the session 2010-2011.
(A) Faculty of Agriculture (Master’s Degree):
1) Agronomy, 2) Plant Pathology, 3) Agril. Entomology, 4)  Ag.Economics, 5) Agril. Statistics, 6)Ag.Extension7) Genetics, 8) Plant Breeding, 9) Seed Science & Technology, 10) Plant Physiology, 11) Agril. Chem. & Soil Science, 12) Ag. Biochemistry, 13) Ag. Chemicals, 14) Agril. Meteorology & Physics, 15) Soil & Water Conservation,
(B) Faculty of Horticulture (Master’s Degree):
1) Fruits & Orchard Management, 2) Vegetable Crops, 3) Floriculture & Landscaping, 4) Post Harvest Technology of Horticultural Crops,  5) Spices & Plantation Crops.
ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must have passed 4 years Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/Horticulture from a duly recognized University securing at least 2.75 OGPA in 4.00 scale (2.50 OGPA/4.00 for SC/ST candidates) or 6.50 OGPA in 10.00 scale (6.00 for SC/ST Candidates ) or at least 60% marks in aggregate (55% for SC & 50% for ST Candidates) under traditional system of examination, and must have secured at least 60% marks (55% for SC & 50% for ST candidates) in aggregate in H.S. or equivalent .(10+2) school leaving examination.
Candidates must have also studied courses of at least six (6)& (8) credit hours relevant to concerned discipline in their Undergraduate Programme for Faculty of Agriculture & Horticulture and  this need to be substantiated with proper documentary evidence.

(C) Faculty of Agriculture (Ph.D. programme):
1) Agronomy, 2) Plant Pathology, 3) Agril. Entomology, 4) Agril.Economics, 5) Agril. Statistics, 6) Agril.Extension, 7)Genetics, 8) Plant Breeding, 9) Seed Science & Technology, 10) Plant- Physiology, 11) Agril. Chem. & Soil Science,12) Agril.Biochemistry, 13) Agril. (D) Faculty of Horticulture (Ph.D. programme):
1) Fruits & Orchard Management, 2) Vegetable Crops, 3) Floriculture & Land Scaping, 4) Post Harvest Technology of Horticultural Crops, 5) Spices & Plantation Crops.
(E) Faculty of Agril. Engineering (Ph.D. Programme):
1) Soil & Water Engineering, 2) Farm Machinery & Power. 3) Post Harvest & Engineering .4) Food Engineering.

ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must have passed 2 years Masters’ degree in Agriculture/Horticulture /Agril. Engineering from a duly recognized University securing at least 2.75 OGPA out of 4.00 scale (2.50 OGPA/4.00 for SC/ST candidates) or 6.75 OGPA in 10.00 scale (6.50 OGPA for SC/ST) or at least 60% marks in aggregate  (55% for SC and 50% for ST candidates) under traditional system of examination in respective stream in concerned discipline, following four year Bachelor’s Degree programme with relevant subjects securing at least 2.75 OGPA in 4.00 scale (2.50 OGPA/4.00 for SC/ST candidates) or 6.50 OGPA in 10.00 scale (6.00 OGPA for SC/ST)  or at least 60% marks in aggregate (55% for SC & 50% for ST candidates) under traditional system of examination, and must have secured at least 60% marks (55% for SC & 50% for ST candidates) in aggregate in Higher Secondary or equivalent (10+2), school leaving examination. 
In the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering the candidates completed M.Tech. with 1½ years course  shall be allowed for admission.
     
Applicants passed 2-year Masters’ Degree in cognate branches under traditional system and secured at least 60% marks (55% for SC & 50% for ST) in aggregate in related discipline following a 3-years Bachelor’ degree with Honours, in concerned subject securing at least 60% (55% for SC & 50% for ST candidates) marks in Honours course, and have secured at least 60% marks (55% for SC & 50%for ST Candidates) in Higher Secondary or equivalent (10+2) school leaving examination, are also eligible for admission, excepting in the courses offered by the Faculty of Horticulture & the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture.
In the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering the candidates having M.Tech in Civil/Mechanical/ Chemical Engineering are eligible for admission to Ph.D. Programme in respective department as cognate branches of Agricultural Engineering.
In the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture the candidates must have passed two years Masters’ Degree in concerned subject followed by BVSC & AH /B.Sc(Ag.)Hons. with specialization in Animal Husbandry are eligible for admission to the Doctoral Degree Programme in the Deptt. of Animal Science, Regarding  securing of marks for admission to the said course, contents of the notification under reference will be  followed. Other qualifications related to graduation & H.S marks in the course credit & traditional system would be the same and mentioned above.

Application forms and all other detailed information will be available on weekdays between 11.00 AM to 4.00 P.M. at the Office of the Registrar (Admission & Scholarship Section) on payment of Rs.400/-for General candidates and Rs. 300/- for SC/ST candidates. The application forms may be downloaded from the website of the University( www.bckv.edu. in) in a paper(A-3, 8½ x 13” colour white; thikness-85 GSM).Each application to be supported by requisite application fees as mentioned above through Demand Draft in favour of Registrar, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya drawn at State Bank of India, Kalyani Branch,Code-1082.
Candidates may apply separately for more than one subject in respective faculty. The In-service candidates must submit their applications through their employers along with “No objection Certificate”.
