VISION:

The vision of the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya is to bring about qualitative and quantitative changes in the livelihood of farmers and other relevant stakeholders through human resource development, technological advancement and dissemination of technologies related to agriculture and allied activities and contributes in agricultural development of the country and the world through enriching in the knowledge pool.

MISSION :

The mission of the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya is to create conducing ecosystem of imparting education, conducting research and dissemination of knowledge and skills towards relevant and meaningful development for the country and world in agriculture.

Goals:

1. To provide contemporary quality education in the areas of agriculture and allied fields

 

2. To create opportunities for basic, applied and adaptive research so as to offer proper solution to the emerging problems in agriculture and development of relevant technology befitting the needs of the farmers and other stake-holders.

 

3. To foster technology transfer to the farming community and different agricultural organizations through various extension education and outreach programme for bringing about equitable targeted growth in all spheres of rural economic activities

Objectives :

1. To provide facilities for study of agriculture and allied subjects to the prospective students at Under Graduate and Post graduate levels

 

2. To conduct research in agricultural and allied sciences in farms, laboratories and farmers’ field

 

3. To undertake outreach education programmes concerning agriculture and allied pursuits for the stakeholders’ of agriculture, especially farmers.

 

4. To provide appropriate technology support and consultation to the state government and its activities for development of agriculture

Mandate of the University:

In accordance with the University Act, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya has the following mandate:

 

• To provide facilities for the study of agriculture, both basic and applied sciences relating to terrestrial and aquatic crops agricultural engineering and technology, horticulture, marketing and processing, land use and management, soil and water management and all matters collected therewith and incidental thereto.

 

• To conduct researches in these sciences and undertake the educational and extension programmes in agriculture among the rural clientele base, keeping in view the requirements of the state.

 

• To provide appropriate technical and consultative support to the state government towards its implementation of agricultural development programme.

APPROACHING GOALS:

In accordance with the mandate and goals, the University has been consistently performing in all the areas of providing quality education, conducting demand driven basic, applied and adaptive research, and outreach education programmes pertaining to participatory technology assessment, required refinement, due validation and capacity building for effective technology application and opening of extended campuses of the main faculties of Mohanpur. The quality of education in the agriculture, horticulture and agricultural engineering can be measured in terms of students’ performance in the state and national level competitive examinations towards obtaining fellowships for higher studies and also in terms of employment. The research facilities in all the disciplines have been enhanced including those in the Regional Research Stations and Sub-stations which can be measured not only through the publications of quality research work in national and international journals, but also through acceptance of outcome of such research work by the farming community as reflected from the steady growth in production front as well as rural employment scenario of the state.
