A. AICRP on Palms:

a) Variety development:

Kalyani Coconut-1 (Jamaica Tall), CCS-5 (Kalpa Mitra/ Java), CCS-9 (Kera Keralam/ WCT) experimented at mondouri centre has been recommended for release as new coconut variety both for tender nut and mature/copra purpose.

b)Technologies developed :

• Nutritional dose for East Coast tall for New Alluvial Zone of West Bengal has been standardized as 500g. N 250g P₂O₅ and 500g K₂O /palm/year.
• Coconut based cropping system comprising of coconut + ginger + bhendi found best under West Bengal condition.
• Nutritional dose for high yielding varieties/hybrids for New Alluvial Zone of West Bengal has been standardized as 1000g. N 500g P₂O₅ and 1000g K₂O /palm/year.
• Coconut biomass based vermi compost production.
• Standardization of spacing and size of planting materials for ginger, turmeric & EF Yam grown under coconut.
• Standardization of integrated nutrient management in coconut.

c) Major research breakthrough in the recent past :

• Standardization of processing of coconut flakes.
• Value added product of coconut like coconut shreads etc. development.

d) Approaches taken for income generation:

• Through sale of mature coconut.
• Through sale of tender coconut.
• Through sale of intercrops like vegetables, fruits, spices and medicinal and aromatic crops etc.

e) Potential benefits of research carried so far .

• Adoption of intercropping of black pepper with coconut by the farmers.
• Organized farmers training programme for dissemination of generated technologies
• Capacity building of rural unemployed youths as COCONUT TECHNICIAN through NGO at Purba Midnapore district.
