Model Value-chain System

Model Value-chain System and Release of Packets of Aromatic Rice

The area and production of Gobindabhog, Radhatilak, Radhunipagal, Lal Badshabhog and Harinakhuri rice have been up-scaling in the districts of Nadia, Hooghly, Burdwan, Murshidabad, Birbhum, Bankura, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Howrah during last 8-9 years through technology-supported programme by RKVY Project on ‘Bengal Aromatic Rice’. In order to develop the model value-chain networks for these premium aromatic rices of South Bengal, the University extended the facilities for milling of paddy at Paddy Processing Centre, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and making packets of quality rice. The packets of raw milled rice and chira (flattened rice) of the following scented rice varieties developed by the University were officially released during last 7-8 years. These packets are sold to varied customers through ATIC sale counter at BCKV, Agriculture Fairs, etc., which need active support and cooperation from the Government, agro-based companies, farmers’ organizations, SAUs, etc. for long-term sustainability.
